Ken and I live in Adlington, Chorley, after moving from Manchester in 2002 to a place with a bigger garden, one where I could have a pen outside which would allow me to keep a stud after I retired.
We have been breeding Burmese since 1994, I joined the Burmese Cat Club and the Burmese Cat Society that year. We bought our first girl from Hazel Leese; Tanclogwyn Niome was a beautiful brown girl with the most fantastic eyes and soft, silky coat. We called her Meme and Hazel suggested that it might be nice to show her. We took her along for her first show, to the Gwynedd Cat Club as a kitten in 1994, where she had a red card day. As an adult Meme became Champion in three straight shows; from then on, we were hooked on showing.
We had asked Hazel if we could have a litter of kittens and went along to meet Dorothy Tomlinson and her lovely boy, UK Gr Ch Wizard Boromir Kamehand, a very sweet natured boy but sadly now no longer with us. Meme produced four kittens by this mating, brown, blue, chocolate, and lilac. We were so pleased I decided to keep the chocolate girl as a companion for Meme; I had already registered my prefix as Karlac so the chocolate girl was named Karlac Amber Sunset (Mandy).
After having given us three lovely litters of kittens, Mandy was neutered and continued to enjoy showing. She went on to gain her title as UK Gr Pr in 2003, followed in 2004 by her daughter UK Gr Ch Karlac Sunlight Serenade. Thankfully, at that time, the GCCF brought out the new Imperial class. This enabled us to take Mandy out of retirement and to continue to show her. Mandy collected her fifth Imperial Certificate at the Gwynedd show in 2006.
Her granddaughter, Jaylene, is also an Imperial Grand Champion. She gained her final certificate at the BCS in 2008.
We bought our first stud boy from Jan Bowen, Janzanco Billiejay Karlac, a lovely brown boy who loved going out to shows, settling in well and playing with his toy. After Billy retired from stud he went to live with my brother and Cindy, a retired breeding queen who Billy adored. They are both very happy and keep my brother on his toes.
